IBERFLORA PRESENTS PPQS, THE NATIONAL CERTIFIED QUALITY SYSTEM FOR SELLING FLOWERS AND PLANTS WITH A MAXIMUM GUARANTEE

FEPEX, the Spanish Federation of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Living Plants Producers and Exporters Associations, has presented at Iberflora –from 3rd to 5th October at Feria Valencia- the new quality protocol to produce ornamental flowers and plants: the Plant Production Quality System (PPQS).

The new PPQS quality protocol has been promoted by the flowers and plants sector under FEPEX with two objectives in mind: firstly, to establish a production system that adapts to Spanish production conditions and which covers the most frequently expected quality and safety demands in the international market. Secondly, the new system also intends to respond to the concern of customers, firms and consumers about environmental care and protecting health and safety at work, and it also meets good social practices.

The implementation of the PPQS system guarantees Spanish nurseries covering all the requirements demanded in the most rigorous international quality systems, and has already been accepted by important European supermarket chains and gardening centres, including Kaugland or Carrefour France.

According to Luis Martín, the technician of FEPEX´s Quality Department, “the structure of this standard covers themes ranging from soil studies to occupational safety, pest control, documentation, good practices and environmental policies.

This certification protocol has been created as “a tool of equivalences to unify the mass of different certifications there is in the plants market”, states Lennart Loven, Chair of Union Fleurs, the International Floriculture Commerce Association.

Vicente Peris Alcayde, the Iberflora Chair and the FEPEX Living Plants and Flowers Committee Chair. intervened in the presentation of PPQS and praises this initiative.

According to Peris Alcayde, “having our own certification system that includes all the Spanish sector’s peculiarities has been a long-standing intention of the Spanish ornamental sector. At long last, this is now a reality”.
